Ukraine Strikes Russian Oil Refinery After Zelensky Announces Resumed Attacks
Ukraine launched a large-scale drone attack on Russia's Ryazan region early Thursday, sparking a fire at an oil refinery, the regional governor said. This marks Kyiv's first strike on Russian energy infrastructure since the US announced a partial ceasefire deal. The refinery, owned by Russian oil giant Rosneft, supplies fuel to Moscow and accounts for nearly 5% of Russia's total refining capacity. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Kyiv had paused energy strikes for three days to comply with US wishes but resumed them because Russia continued attacking Ukrainian infrastructure. Kremlin spokesman Dmitri Peskov said no concrete terms had been specified regarding the energy truce, so activity continues. School and kindergarten classes were canceled in two districts due to the attacks, and a warehouse was also damaged.
