Kremlin Says Ukrainian Refinery Strike Undermines US Peace Push
The Kremlin said Thursday that Ukrainian attacks on Russian oil refineries contradict US peace efforts, after a Ukrainian drone struck a refinery in Russia's Ryazan region overnight. The strike was the first Ukrainian attack on Russian energy infrastructure since President Donald Trump announced a ceasefire deal on Sunday. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Moscow never perceived Kyiv as complying with the truce, calling the refinery attack "nothing new." He accused Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky of refusing to engage in peace efforts despite what he described as energetic American attempts to initiate a peace process. Ukrainian President Zelensky told the Financial Times that Ukraine suspended energy infrastructure attacks for three days to comply with US wishes but resumed them because Russia continued striking Ukrainian energy facilities. Russia said it attacked seven Ukrainian energy facilities on Wednesday.
