Musk blames Trump for restricting Ukrainian army's Starlink access
Elon Musk has blamed Donald Trump for restrictions on Starlink speed affecting the Ukrainian military, following an outage this week after Trump announced a new diesel deal with Russia. The service, provided by Musk's SpaceX, is used for government and military communications in Ukraine's war against Russia. Musk denied involvement in the decision, stating on X that "Starshield systems are owned and controlled by the US government" and that limits are decided by the US military and president. Polish foreign minister Radoslaw Sikorski accused Musk of "playing politics," while Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky warned the shutdown meant "people would die," with several combat missions failing Tuesday evening. The outage coincided with Trump's demands for Ukraine to halt long-range strikes on Russian energy infrastructure and occurred as Ukraine was hit by ballistic missiles. A US official told Axios the administration was not involved, while Poland, which pays for Ukraine's Starlink subscription, relies on it for guiding drone strikes that disrupt Russian logistics.
