Ukraine and Allies Seek to Reverse Course After Trump's Shift Toward Russia
Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky acknowledged losing the United States as a key ally, following President Donald Trump's decision to align with Russia by purchasing Russian diesel fuel and demanding an end to Ukrainian strikes on Russian refineries. Zelensky made the remarks in London on Wednesday, October 14, during an interview with British journalist Piers Morgan, expressing that losing America is painful and that Trump is choosing the wrong side of history. Trump had also called for Zelensky's departure, echoing Russian President Vladimir Putin's wishes. The US-Russia rapprochement surprised Ukrainians and Europeans, who were meeting in Florida to discuss a peace plan. Zelensky stated Ukraine cannot afford to be weak, suggesting he is using all available leverage to potentially reverse the geopolitical shift.
