Zelensky: Europe has enough Patriot interceptors for Ukraine to survive winter
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that Europe possesses enough Patriot air defense interceptor missiles to help Ukraine survive the winter, announcing this at a briefing in Brussels on Friday, October 16. Zelensky said European leaders are aware of the minimum number of Patriot missiles needed for a winter package, confirming the package exists for all leaders, though the exact quantity of support remains undetermined. He affirmed that Europe has sufficient PAC-2 and PAC-3 missiles based on the figures he presented, and he also hopes to jointly develop the Freyja missile defense system with Europeans. This statement follows a CNN report on October 15 citing sources that Ukraine exhausted its Patriot interceptor stockpiles, with most ballistic missiles not intercepted during an October 14 strike due to shortages. Ukraine previously faced similar depletion in mid-August, and Zelensky announced a new missile package agreement on September 24, with President Donald Trump confirming licenses for Patriot missile production on September 25.
