Zelensky: Ukraine needs €70B more from EU in 2027 to cover war costs
Ukrainian President Zelensky stated that the war will cost 155 billion euros in 2027, requiring at least 70 billion euros in additional EU aid for defense, as announced during his address to the European Council in Brussels on October 16. Zelensky called the need for 70 billion euros realistic and urged European partners to secure the funds, noting that Ukrainian drones halt most Russian assaults but production could be doubled or tripled with more financing. He also warned against weakening sanctions on Russia, criticizing a diesel supply deal for providing Moscow extra war revenue. Additionally, Zelensky called for a tough 22nd sanctions package targeting Russia's financial system, missile production, and drone manufacturing. The European Commission previously allocated 2.86 billion euros for Ukrainian defense under the Ukraine Support Loan program, while 2027 funding remains a separate issue.
