Russia may gain full satellite coverage of Ukraine within six months, says aide

news.liga.net (Ukrainian) —

Russia may achieve full satellite coverage of Ukraine within approximately six months, enabling real-time control of strike drones and missiles, according to Ukrainian presidential advisor Serhiy Beskrestnov (Flash) in an interview with Associated Press. Beskrestnov said Russian satellites currently provide temporary coverage over Ukraine for 30-40 minutes during flyovers. He identified the developing Russian satellite network "Rassvet" as the number one technological threat, as it could control Shahed drones, reconnaissance UAVs, and cheaper missiles like "Banderol" and "Dan-M," potentially rendering Ukrainian electronic warfare systems ineffective. Ukraine is developing countermeasures, though Beskrestnov noted the challenge of preparing defenses before the system is fully operational. Russia announced the Starlink-analog system in 2025, and in October 2026, President Zelensky stated China is assisting Russia with its development.
