Russia's new satellite network could enable real-time Shahed drone control over Ukraine in six months

rbc.ua (Ukrainian) —

Russia is deploying a satellite network called "Rassvet" that could enable real-time control of Shahed drones and missiles over Ukraine, with full coverage potentially arriving in about six months, according to Ukrainian presidential advisor Serhiy Beskrestnov. Beskrestnov called the network the top technological threat from Russia, warning that operators could directly guide drones and cheap missiles, rendering Ukraine's electronic warfare systems useless. He said this would be a "big catastrophe" for Ukraine and Europe. Currently, Russian satellites provide only temporary 30-40 minute communication windows over Ukraine. Ukraine is preparing countermeasures, including sanctions, but faces challenges defending against a system not yet fully operational. Russia has launched 32 satellites so far, with over 250 needed for continuous coverage.
