Russia Downs Over 1,000 Ukrainian Drones in 15 Regions
Russian air defenses shot down 1,015 Ukrainian drones across 15 regions of the country's European part overnight, according to Moscow's Defense Ministry, with the capital and St. Petersburg as primary targets and some damage reported. The ministry's morning statement said Moscow and St. Petersburg were the main attack objectives, with the latter suffering damage. Border cities Belgorod, Kursk, and Bryansk, plus Krasnodar in the south and annexed Crimea, were also targeted. Moscow's mayor reported over 500 drones intercepted en route to the capital, forcing airport closures with hundreds of flights delayed or canceled. The escalation follows Russia ignoring a U.S.-brokered energy truce announced by President Donald Trump, which Kyiv had observed for several days.
