Kyiv Resident Defies Putin After Missile Strike on Her Apartment
A Russian ballistic missile strike on a Kyiv apartment block on October 13 killed three people and injured at least 19, with the building's residents narrowly escaping death due to the weapon's poor accuracy. Olga Chelesheva, who lives in the building with four generations of her family, told Nettavisen the missile exploded in the air rather than hitting directly, sparing their lives. A Ukrainian air raid warning gave her only ten seconds to grab her five-year-old daughter and shelter between concrete walls. The attack was the second on the building, following a Shahed drone strike last winter. Chelesheva's husband is mobilized in the National Guard, and she refuses to leave Kyiv, stating she will not let any other country force her from her hometown.
