Russia Strikes 15+ Ukrainian Energy Sites in Major Overnight Attack

lsm.lv (Spanish) —

Russia launched one of its most powerful attacks on Ukraine's energy infrastructure overnight, striking over 15 major electricity generation and transmission facilities, according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. The strikes caused widespread damage and power outages across multiple regions. The attacks hit energy facilities in Lutsk, Rivne, Zhytomyr, Vinnytsia, Shepetivka, Slavuta, and Netishyn, as well as in Kharkiv, Kyiv, and Dnipropetrovsk oblasts. Ukraine's Energy Ministry reported that specialists restored power to over 500,000 consumers, though repair work is complicated by constant air raid alerts and threats of repeated attacks. Russia used ballistic and cruise missiles, plus 332 Shahed drones, while aerial bombs struck Kherson, Sloviansk, and Sumy, killing two people and injuring dozens. Zelensky criticized the US decision to delay sanctions against Moscow, saying it ignored Senator Lindsey Graham's law meant to pressure Russia into ending the war. Strikes also hit Kryvyi Rih and Zaporizhzhia, damaging the Metinvest steel plant. Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine began on February 24, 2022.
