Ukrainian forces strike Russian Nebo-U radar in Krasnodar Krai
Ukraine's defense forces struck a Russian Nebo-U radar station near the village of Magry in Russia's Krasnodar Krai on the night of October 16, causing a fire at the military site, according to Ukraine's General Staff. The 55Zh6U Nebo-U is a long-range, three-coordinate meter-band radar used by Russian forces to detect and track aircraft, cruise missiles, and ballistic missiles, with an estimated value of $100 million. The extent of equipment damage has not yet been specified. Strikes on such radars may limit Russian forces' ability to detect aerial targets and control airspace. Ukrainian forces previously hit a Nebo-U in Donetsk region, and in late September, a GUR unit reported striking Russian military targets in Crimea, including another Nebo-U station.
