Russia Hits 15+ Ukrainian Energy Sites in Major Strike
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky reported one of the largest Russian strikes on Ukraine's energy system, with over 15 critical electricity generation and transmission facilities attacked across multiple regions. The most difficult situations were in Lutsk, Rivne, Zhytomyr, Vinnytsia, Shepetivka, Slavuta, and Netishyn, with strikes also hitting Kharkiv, Kyiv, and Dnipro regions. Russia used over 320 Shahed drones, loitering munitions, cruise, and ballistic missiles from the evening of October 16 to the morning of October 17. Zelensky noted that while many projectiles were intercepted, the scale and continuity of attacks caused significant damage. He added that new support packages from European partners are being prepared. Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered continued massive strikes following a report from Chief of General Staff Valery Gerasimov.
