Russia modernizes Shahed drones as Moscow faces drone attacks on war's day 1,698
Russia is modernizing its Shahed drones, while drones attacked Moscow on the 1,698th day of the full-scale war in Ukraine. Ukrainian energy infrastructure continues to be targeted, causing widespread and prolonged power outages, with 215 combat clashes reported in the past day. Russian officials claimed to have shot down 51 drones over Moscow. A Ukrainian presidential adviser warned that Russia's satellite network "Svitanok" could soon provide real-time control over Shahed drones across all of Ukraine, potentially rendering Ukrainian electronic warfare systems ineffective. The adviser stated the satellite network currently provides communication over Ukraine for 30-40 minutes during satellite passes, but coverage could become permanent within six months. He called this the number one technological threat, as it would allow Russia to adjust drone and missile flight paths during attacks.
