Mass drone attack on St. Petersburg sets oil terminal ablaze
A mass drone attack on St. Petersburg, Russia, sparked a major fire at the region's largest oil terminal, causing damage and power outages, with no reported fatalities. Russian air defenses reportedly shot down at least 144 drones over the surrounding Leningrad region. The attack, involving around a hundred drones, woke residents with explosions and left fires burning into the morning. Drone debris struck apartment buildings and a parking lot, causing injuries from burns and smoke. Flights at Pulkovo airport were delayed or canceled, and a data center and warehouse were also hit. The assault comes amid a dispute where the US has demanded Ukraine stop striking Russian energy sites, a move linked to lowering US gasoline prices. Ukraine has vowed to continue attacks in response to Russian strikes on its power grid.
