Ukrainian drones strike military unit and LNG plant in Leningrad Oblast
On the night and morning of October 18, Ukrainian forces launched a massive drone attack on Russia's Leningrad Oblast, causing a fire at a Russian military unit and thermal anomalies at a liquefied natural gas complex. The fire broke out at military unit 17646-F, a radar company near the village of Kaporoskoye, part of the 333rd Radio-Technical Regiment of the Russian Aerospace Forces. Satellite data from NASA FIRMS also detected thermal signatures at the Gazprom LNG Portovaya plant, a production and shipping facility near the Nord Stream pipeline's starting point. The LNG terminal, located in the Vyborg district, has a design capacity of 1.5 million tons per year. The cause of the fire at the gas complex remains unknown, though the attack also targeted multiple sites in St. Petersburg, including an oil terminal, a warehouse, and a data center.
