Zelensky seeks European funding as US support wavers
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky met European leaders Friday to request increased funding for 2027, estimating the war will cost €155 billion next year and urging allies to boost support as US backing wavers. Zelensky asked Europe to fund higher drone production, claiming Kyiv could manufacture two to three times more units with additional money. EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said current funding covers 2026 but not fully 2027, with officials estimating €70 billion more is needed. Zelensky criticized President Trump, calling European leaders "real leaders" and expressing surprise at the US-Russia sanctions deal. He also complained about slowed Starlink satellite speeds, which he called a "dangerous and unpleasant surprise," while EU diplomats admitted they cannot yet replace the technology.
