Ukrainian Drone Strike Hits St. Petersburg Oil Depot, VK Data Center
Russia reported a massive Ukrainian drone attack on St. Petersburg, with 126 drones shot down, but some struck targets including an oil depot at the port, causing large fires. Governor Alexander Drosdenko said the attack was ongoing, while city governor Alexander Beglow restricted operations at Pulkowo Airport for safety. Videos showed high flames and smoke in the harbor area, with an oil storage facility hit. A VK data center was also struck, causing a widespread outage of the social network, and other targets included a warehouse and a bridge. Damage and casualties remain unclear. The attack follows tensions between Ukrainian President Zelensky and US President Trump, who had declared a ceasefire with both countries agreeing not to strike energy infrastructure. Ukraine says Russia never honored this, and Zelensky lifted his own strike moratorium after days, making this the first large-scale assault on Russian energy infrastructure since.
