EU allies to review Ukraine's request for extra funding
French President Emmanuel Macron announced that Ukraine's EU allies will examine Kyiv's request for an additional 70 billion euros to fund its war against Russia, without taking a direct position on the matter. Macron stated it is too early to determine a specific amount, noting a 90-billion-euro EU loan package is still pending disbursement. He also criticized far-right presidential candidate Marine Le Pen, saying cutting support would threaten European security. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen confirmed Ukraine will need 70 billion euros in 2027, a gap that must be covered, urging other partners to act. Macron also expressed doubts about the US-Russia agreement to lift sanctions on Russian diesel.
