Ukrainian drones strike St Petersburg and Leningrad region, killing one
Ukrainian forces launched a major drone attack on St Petersburg and the Leningrad region overnight into Sunday, targeting an oil terminal and a data centre, killing one person and injuring 15 others. Russian media called it one of the largest strikes on the area since the full-scale invasion began. Local officials said 144 drones were shot down, with debris causing fires and damaging 55 vehicles in Gatchina and other districts. Emergency power cuts affected around 20,000 people, while flights at Pulkovo airport were suspended for over seven hours. The VK data centre was hit but services remained operational. The attack follows Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's statement that Russian forces struck Ukraine's energy sector in four regions on Saturday night, leaving tens of thousands without power. He reported two deaths and 12 injuries from residential attacks, with Russia using nearly 2,700 drones, 1,700 bombs, and 66 missiles over the past week.
