Zelensky meets US envoys as Trump accuses him of blocking peace
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky met with US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner on Sunday to ease tensions, as President Donald Trump accused him of not wanting to end the war with Russia. The talks came amid mutual strikes on energy infrastructure, with Russia leaving thousands without power and Ukraine launching its largest drone attack on Saint Petersburg since 2022. Trump, who has blocked new sanctions on Russia and struck a diesel deal with Moscow, claimed on Truth Social that Zelensky "doesn't care" about peace and is targeting Russian refineries to hurt global diesel markets. Zelensky said Ukraine was ready to work "constructively" and discussed US Patriot air defence deliveries, while warning that formal US support for Russia would be a "historic mistake." Russian strikes left tens of thousands without power and killed three people, while Moscow reported one death in the Saint Petersburg attack. The Kremlin said Ukrainian attacks will not change its war aims, as Putin continues to seek control of eastern Ukraine in the conflict's fifth year.
