NATO jets respond to unidentified drone over Latvia and Lithuania
Latvia and Lithuania declared air alerts on Sunday due to an unidentified drone, prompting NATO fighter jets to be deployed. The object was tracked moving toward Latvia before alerts were lifted. Lithuanian authorities issued a red alert in Šiauliai and Panevėžys counties, with warnings sent to residents' phones. Flights at Kaunas airport were suspended from 07:05 to 08:00. Latvian forces declared alerts in Bauska, Aizkraukle, and Ogre municipalities, which ended by 08:12. The incident follows recent regional drone activity, including Romanian F-16s shooting down two drones over the Black Sea on October 17. NATO held a special meeting on that event, while Polish authorities searched for a possible airspace intruder near Lublin.
