Polish Starlink arson likely ordered by Russian intelligence

dw.com (Russian) —

German magazine Der Spiegel reported Friday that a Turkish criminal group, Daltons, may have been behind the September arson attack on a Starlink ground station near Warsaw, allegedly acting on orders from Russian intelligence services. Two Turkish citizens, aged 38 and 34, detained in Germany on October 12 are suspected of belonging to or working for the group. A Stuttgart court will soon decide on their extradition to Poland. The group's alleged leader, Beratcan Gökdemir, was detained in Russia in 2024 and not extradited to Turkey, leading German intelligence to suspect Moscow offered him protection in exchange for services. The fire on September 23 damaged the station's electrical substation and generator, briefly disrupting operations with no injuries. Polish authorities called it a sabotage attempt, with Deputy Prime Minister Krzysztof Gawkowski noting many signs point to Russia's new attack doctrine, though direct evidence of Russian involvement remains lacking.
