Lithuania urges shelter after suspected drone incursion
An unidentified flying object breached Lithuanian airspace on Sunday morning, prompting authorities to urge residents in parts of the country to take shelter. The alert lasted about an hour. Fighter jets were scrambled in both Lithuania and Poland to identify what were likely drones. Lithuanian Defense Minister Robertas Kaunas said debris from an object was found in northern Lithuania, with some wreckage hitting a civilian vehicle. Cloudy weather prevented the jets from identifying the objects. Airports in the Polish cities of Lublin and Rzeszow were temporarily closed, and Latvia also issued a possible incursion alert. Polish authorities are investigating a potential drone crash. Ukrainian drones have frequently entered NATO airspace in Poland and Lithuania in recent months due to Russian jamming.
