Ukraine strikes Russian oil facilities with 1,000-drone attack
Ukraine launched over 1,000 drones at Russia in one of its largest aerial strikes of the war, killing at least one person and injuring five, with fires reported at oil facilities in St Petersburg. The attack targeted the St Petersburg oil terminal, the Ruchi oil depot, and industrial warehouses, disrupting flights at the city's main airport and leaving about 20,000 people without electricity. Russia's Ministry of Defence said 1,015 Ukrainian drones were neutralised overnight across 15 regions, Crimea, and the Black Sea. The strikes came as tensions between Kyiv and Washington deepened, with US President Donald Trump criticising Ukraine's attacks on Russian oil infrastructure and defending his decision to pause new sanctions on Russia. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy accused Russia of continuing to attack Ukraine's energy sector, with 76 strikes in the past week.
