Lithuania and Latvia issue air alerts as drone detected near border

polsatnews.pl (Polish) —

Lithuania and Latvia issued air threat alerts on Sunday morning, with red warnings in central and northern Lithuania and orange alerts in three Latvian regions urging residents to take shelter, as a possible drone was detected approaching. The Lithuanian military reported a suspected drone near Biržai heading toward Latvia, prompting NATO fighter jets to scramble and a temporary suspension of flights at Kaunas and Šiauliai airports. Alerts were lifted by 7:11 AM Polish time, with authorities confirming the threat had ended. Latvia's orange warnings covered Bauska, Aizkraukle, and Ogre, advising residents to stay indoors behind two walls and report suspicious objects. This follows similar incidents on October 3 and September 15, when a drone was destroyed by NATO jets.
