NATO jets scramble as drone crashes in Lithuania near Latvia border
A drone triggered an air alert in Lithuania and Latvia, prompting NATO fighter jets to scramble, and crashed near Pasvalys in northern Lithuania close to the Latvian border. Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda linked the incident to Russia's war against Ukraine, while the public broadcaster LRT reported the drone likely entered Lithuanian airspace from Poland. Military police found wreckage in Juodžionys, and Defense Minister Robertas Kaunas said poor weather prevented visual contact with the object. Prime Minister Mindaugas Sinkevičius said sabotage should be considered and convened a National Security Commission meeting for Monday. Mobile alerts in both countries urged residents to take shelter indoors.
