US warns of retaliation if EU restricts SpaceX market access

meduza.io —

The U.S. Ambassador to the EU, Andrew Puzder, warned that Washington would impose "devastating" retaliation on European companies if Brussels restricts SpaceX's market access. The dispute involves a European Commission proposal to reserve satellite-to-smartphone radio spectrum for European firms, which would limit access for U.S. and Chinese companies. Puzder stated European firms "should be wary" of severe consequences given the U.S. market's size. SpaceX has criticized the plan, arguing it could degrade communications in Ukraine, where its Starlink service is vital. Puzder added that making U.S. firms less competitive is not a legitimate goal of such legislation.
