Trump says he won't push Russia away from talks, blames Zelensky for prolonging war
President Trump said Sunday he will not take measures that could push Russia away from peace negotiations to end the war in Ukraine, defending his suspension of sanctions and tariffs against Moscow. Trump accused Ukrainian President Zelensky of prolonging the conflict and criticized Ukrainian attacks on Russian diesel refineries, claiming they harm global diesel markets and U.S. producers. He said he may sign the sanctions legislation later without specifying a date. The suspended measures, part of the Graham Law, included tariffs on Russian products and penalties on buyers of Russian oil and gas. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said a 60-day review will assess economic impacts. Zelensky warned the suspension could strengthen Putin.
