Zelensky slams Trump's suspension of US sanctions on Russia

adevarul.ro (Romanian) —

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky harshly criticized the Trump administration's decision to suspend part of the new sanctions against Russia, calling the measure a "mistake" and warning it risks encouraging Vladimir Putin to continue military aggression. In a message on platform X, Zelensky warned the current suspension could be followed by further relaxations of the sanctions regime, noting the diesel agreement and the decision regarding the Lindsey Law may not be the end of this process. He stated the measure exclusively favors Russia and reduces economic pressure on the Kremlin, adding that financial "rewards" only encourage continued attacks and will not stop the war in any way. The Kremlin welcomed the decision, with representative Kirill Dmitriev calling it an "important and truly historic moment," while Democratic Senator Richard Blumenthal accused the White House of siding with the Kremlin. The Graham Law, enacted in September 2026, aimed to intensify economic pressure on Russia and included tariffs up to 500% on Russian imports.
