Indian Refineries Boost Fuel Exports to West by 43% to $1.2 Billion

timesnownews.com —

Indian refineries and plants in Turkiye and Brunei shipped $1.2 billion of oil products to Western sanctioning countries in September, a 43% increase from August, according to the Centre for Research on Energy and Clean Air (CREA). Reliance Industries' Jamnagar refinery accounted for six of seven shipments received at European Union ports. The EU took €667 million worth of these products, with Australia, the US, and New Zealand receiving the remainder. Italy received three EU-bound shipments, while Romania, Spain, and Cyprus took one each. Exports destined for EU ports rose 80% in value, including a 104,000-tonne gasoil cargo from Jamnagar en route to Rotterdam. India was Russia's second-largest fossil fuel customer in September, importing €4.1 billion, with crude comprising 88%. The EU's January 2026 ban on fuel refined from Russian crude exempts net crude exporters, which CREA says creates a loophole. India has taken 37% of Russia's crude exports since December 2022.
