Putin proposes trilateral summit with Trump and Xi on Ukraine war

dw.com (Russian) —

Russian President Vladimir Putin has proposed a trilateral summit with US President Donald Trump and Chinese leader Xi Jinping to negotiate an end to the four-year war in Ukraine on Moscow's terms, as reported by The Wall Street Journal on Sunday. The Kremlin suggested holding the talks on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit scheduled for November 18-19 in Shenzhen, China. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed the possibility is being discussed, though no clear agreement on the meeting or its agenda exists yet. A senior US administration official said Trump has not yet agreed to the summit but may view the idea favorably. The proposal was reportedly made during an October 9 phone call with Trump, which also included a deal on Russian diesel fuel supplies to the US. Trump lifted significant sanctions against Moscow on October 16.
