Russia attacked Ukraine's energy grid 2,147 times since Koretskyi became prime minister
Since Prime Minister Serhiy Koretskyi took office on July 16, Russia has attacked Ukrainian energy facilities 2,147 times, with no day passing without strikes, he told BBC News Ukraine on Monday, October 19. Koretskyi said the current intensity of attacks is several times higher than last year and has increased closer to winter. The power transmission system suffers most, as thousands of kilometers of lines and large substations cannot be fully protected, though Ukraine maintains a large stockpile of reserve equipment with partners. Workers repair damage and build protective structures under fire, and the grid has survived due to winter preparation and resilience plans. On October 17, Russia launched one of its largest strikes on over 15 energy objects, and on October 19, attacks damaged 10 more, leaving over 500,000 households without power across ten regions.
