Putin proposes trilateral summit with Trump and Xi on Ukraine deal
Russian President Vladimir Putin has proposed a trilateral summit with U.S. President Donald Trump and Chinese leader Xi Jinping next month to negotiate an end to the Ukraine conflict on terms favoring Moscow, according to a Wall Street Journal report on Sunday. The proposal came during an October 9 phone call between Putin and Trump that also yielded a U.S. deal to buy Russian diesel, following Trump's executive order waiving key sanctions on Moscow. The Kremlin suggested holding the dialogue on the sidelines of the November 18-19 APEC summit in Shenzhen, though a senior U.S. official said Trump had not yet agreed. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed discussions were underway but said no clear agenda existed. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy criticized the diesel deal and sanctions waiver, warning they would embolden Putin and prolong the war.
