Russian strike kills woman in Kyiv, damages subway station and residential tower
A Russian air strike killed a woman in Kyiv and hit a subway station, damaging a 25-storey residential building and injuring three others, according to Mayor Vitali Klitschko. The attack was part of a "massive strike" on the capital region, as confirmed by Russia's defence ministry. Russia attacked energy facilities in 11 Ukrainian regions overnight, knocking out power for tens of thousands of people, said deputy energy minister Artem Nekrasov. Rolling blackouts and power restrictions were introduced for industry and businesses, while non-residential buildings and a medical facility in Kyiv were also hit. The attack targeted military-industrial facilities, cruise missile and drone storage sites, and data centres, per Moscow. Ukraine's energy sector has suffered frequent strikes during over four years of war. The US has resumed sharing critical intelligence with Kyiv, and President Volodymyr Zelenskiy spoke with US peace envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner amid mediation efforts.
