Trump lifts some Russia sanctions for 60-day review
President Donald Trump has announced he is lifting certain sanctions against Russia, but the final decision is not yet made. Secretary of State Marco Rubio says it is a 60-day pause to analyze the sanctions' impact. The presidential order, issued Friday, lifts sanctions, restrictions, and tariffs on some Russia-linked goods, effective Sunday, citing "U.S. national interest." Trump stated Saturday the decision is not final. Rubio said the period will assess effects on the global and U.S. economies, also covering other countries like India. The sanctions package, championed by the late Senator Lindsey Graham, included tariffs up to 100 percent on goods from top importers of Russian oil or gas. The pause would extend past the November 3 midterm elections, ending December 17. Ukrainian President Zelenskyy said he feels "betrayed," while some Republican senators criticized the move as "beyond irresponsible."
