Putin proposes summit with Trump and Xi to end Ukraine war
Russian President Vladimir Putin has proposed a summit with US President Donald Trump and Chinese leader Xi Jinping next month to negotiate an end to the war in Ukraine under terms favorable to Moscow, according to the Wall Street Journal. The proposal was made during an October 9 phone call between Putin and Trump, during which they also agreed on Russian diesel supplies to American and international markets. The WSJ notes that a summit excluding Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky would alarm European leaders. Trump defended his decision to suspend sanctions against Russia, saying he wants to keep Moscow at the negotiating table, and accused Zelensky of not wanting to end the war, claiming Ukraine could have secured a better deal two years ago.
