Putin proposes November summit with Trump and Xi to end Ukraine war
Russian President Vladimir Putin proposed a November summit with US President Donald Trump and Chinese leader Xi Jinping to negotiate an end to the four-year Ukraine war, according to the Wall Street Journal on Sunday, citing sources familiar with the discussions. The proposal, which could favor Moscow, came during an October 9 phone call between Putin and Trump, also yielding a US diesel purchase deal and Friday's executive order suspending key sanctions against Russia. The Kremlin suggested holding the trilateral meeting on the sidelines of the APEC summit in Shenzhen, China, on November 18-19. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed discussions are underway, though no clear agreement exists on the meeting or agenda. A US official said Trump hasn't agreed but may be receptive. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy criticized the diesel deal and sanctions suspension, warning they could encourage Putin and prolong the war.
