Putin proposes trilateral summit with Trump and Xi on Ukraine
Russian President Vladimir Putin has proposed a trilateral summit with U.S. President Donald Trump and Chinese leader Xi Jinping next month to discuss the war in Ukraine, aiming to end it on terms favorable to Moscow, according to The Wall Street Journal. The meeting would exclude Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. The proposal was made during a phone call with Trump on October 9, which also included a deal for U.S. purchases of Russian diesel fuel. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed ongoing discussions, while a senior U.S. official said Trump has not yet agreed but may view the idea positively given his campaign promise to end the war. The Kremlin suggested holding the dialogue during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit on November 18-19 in Shenzhen, China. Beijing has signaled it would not object if Trump participates, as the summit would bolster China's role as a diplomatic mediator. The White House declined to comment.
