Putin proposes trilateral summit with Trump and Xi to end Ukraine war
Russian President Vladimir Putin has proposed a trilateral summit with U.S. President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping next month to negotiate an end to the war in Ukraine, according to the Wall Street Journal. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is not intended to have a place in the proposed meeting, the newspaper reports, citing a former Russian intelligence officer. The goal is reportedly to end the nearly five-year war in a way favorable to Russia, which invaded Ukraine in February 2022. The proposal was made during a phone call with Trump a week and a half ago, the source said, the same call that led to Trump's controversial deal to buy Russian diesel. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed discussions are ongoing, though a senior U.S. official said Trump has not agreed to the summit.
