Bessent: Trump's Russia Sanctions Pressure Unmatched

nv.ua (Ukrainian) —

U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said President Donald Trump has taken a "very tough stance" on sanctions against Russia, claiming no one has pressured Moscow harder than Trump. In an NBC News interview published Sunday, Bessent cited sanctions on Russian energy firms Rosneft and Lukoil as a "catastrophic blow" to Russia's energy industry. He confirmed sanctions remain in place, referencing a 60-day review period for the administration. Secretary of State Marco Rubio similarly stated Friday that Trump will assess the economic impact of Russia-related sanctions within 60 days. Trump suspended certain energy-related sanctions by decree on October 16, while the Treasury extended licenses for some Lukoil foreign assets until April 2027.
