Ukraine paid for Patriot missiles but US delays delivery, Zelenskyy says
Ukraine has paid for Patriot missile systems but the United States is delaying their delivery, according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in a Bloomberg interview. The US currently supplies Ukraine with only 12 Patriot missiles per month, roughly four times fewer than under the Biden administration. Some shipments Ukraine has already paid for have not yet been approved, with Zelenskyy stressing this is not a technical issue. Patriot missiles are Ukraine's primary defense against Russian ballistic attacks. Under Biden, missiles were provided free as military aid, while under Trump Ukraine purchases them. Zelenskyy proposed a deal to halt strikes on Russian diesel fuel in exchange for missiles, but Washington reportedly wants Ukraine to stop such attacks without offering the weapons. Greece and Spain have refused to transfer their Patriot missiles despite some nearing expiration.
