Russian Missiles Hit Kyiv as Moscow Claims Downing 800 Ukrainian Drones
Russia launched a nighttime ballistic missile barrage on Kyiv and other Ukrainian regions, killing at least four people and wounding dozens, while Moscow reported downing over 800 Ukrainian drones targeting Russian cities. The attacks came hours after President Vladimir Putin agreed "in principle" to resume three-way talks with Ukraine and the U.S. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the strikes, saying Russia shows no genuine desire for peace, as 21 missiles hit Kyiv in three waves, damaging apartments, energy facilities, and a subway station. Russia's Defense Ministry said it intercepted 808 drones, with 630 aimed at Moscow, and claimed strikes on Ukrainian drone production and transport infrastructure. The escalation follows U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff's meeting with Putin, which drew criticism for praising the Russian leader, while Zelenskyy urged more Patriot ammunition and sanctions. Russia has launched 170 strikes on Ukraine's energy grid since Oct. 11, and Putin received an invitation to the G20 summit in Miami.
