US envoy Witkoff heads to Russia for Ukraine peace talks
US envoy Steve Witkoff is traveling to St. Petersburg for talks with Russian leadership, following a meeting in Oslo with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and European officials. The trip aims to present proposals developed by American and European partners. The Oslo discussions covered security guarantees for Ukraine, territorial issues, sanctions, and post-war European security. Participants included US envoy Jared Kushner and representatives from Germany, the EU, and NATO. Zelensky stated Ukraine is ready for negotiations but stressed the need to be at the table. President Trump renewed pressure on Ukraine to accept a deal, saying Russia has the advantage and criticizing Zelensky as unhelpful. Norwegian PM Støre suggested Witkoff's visit could pave the way for a high-level meeting between Ukraine, Russia, and the US.
