Musk restricts Starlink speeds for Ukraine, WSJ reports
Elon Musk reportedly ordered speed restrictions on Starlink access for Ukrainian forces, according to sources cited by the Wall Street Journal, causing panic in Kyiv and confusion within the Trump administration. The restrictions, affecting the military Starshield satellite network, disrupted Ukrainian drone operations and combat capabilities on Wednesday. Ukrainian President Zelenskyy warned Monday that the limits weaken Ukraine's ability to fight Russian forces, noting equipment fails at speeds of 130-160 km/h. Musk allegedly initiated the restrictions and gained Trump's support, though Trump has denied involvement. Starlink was activated over Ukraine in 2022 following Russia's full-scale invasion, but is only approved for use over Ukrainian territory.
