Rubio calls US-Ukraine talks positive ahead of Witkoff's Russia visit

dn.se (Swedish) —

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Wednesday that talks between US envoy Steve Witkoff and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Oslo were "positive." Witkoff will now travel to St. Petersburg to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin. Rubio, speaking during a visit to India, said the meeting produced no unexpected or surprising outcomes, and that Witkoff is "equipped with ideas" to share with the Russian side. "We'll see if we can make progress," he added. The Oslo meeting was hastily convened after days of heightened tensions between the US and Ukraine, stemming from a controversial diesel deal between the US and Russia in which Russia will sell diesel to the US.
