Russian strikes kill 4 and wound 34 in Kyiv and other regions
Russian strikes on Kyiv and other Ukrainian regions overnight killed at least four people and injured 34, casting doubt on prospects for U.S.-proposed peace talks. The attacks followed Kremlin statements expressing openness to resuming negotiations. Kyiv suffered the heaviest assault, with one death and 24 injuries, including four children, as ballistic missiles hit six districts and drones struck across the city. Strikes in Kharkiv, Sumy, and Chernihiv regions also caused casualties, while attacks on energy infrastructure left multiple regions without power. The strikes came after President Donald Trump said the U.S. was "the closest we've been" to ending the war, following Special Envoy Steve Witkoff's meeting with Vladimir Putin. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky condemned the attacks, referencing Witkoff's description of Putin as "a humanitarian."
