Xi Jinping unlikely to join Trump-Putin summit, Ukraine envoy says

nv.ua (Ukrainian) —

Ukrainian Ambassador Serhiy Korsunsky said Chinese leader Xi Jinping is unlikely to agree to a trilateral summit with US President Donald Trump and Russian dictator Vladimir Putin, as China benefits from the ongoing war. Korsunsky stated on Radio NV that China sees the war as positive, with the US losing authority and resources while Russia appears victorious. He noted Beijing's rhetoric mirrors Russian claims about threats and self-defense, questioning why China would intervene in matters that don't concern it. The ambassador also dismissed Trump's framing of the summit as being about nuclear disarmament, saying China refuses to discuss this topic, viewing it as a US-Russia matter. China adds about 100 nuclear warheads annually and won't stop until reaching 5,000, currently having 500-600. Putin proposed the meeting on October 18, with Trump open to participation, though Ukraine insists it must be included in any talks about its future.
