Putin agrees to resume trilateral Ukraine peace talks with Kyiv and Washington
President Vladimir Putin agreed Wednesday to resume trilateral negotiations with Washington and Kyiv on ending the war in Ukraine, a Kremlin official said, following a meeting with U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff in St. Petersburg. The talks, set to resume after Nov. 10, will focus on building a post-conflict security system for both nations, according to Putin’s foreign affairs adviser Yuri Ushakov. The three-hour discussion came as Trump presses Kyiv for a deal, though no imminent breakthrough was suggested. Efforts by the Trump administration since early last year have made no significant progress, with Russia and Ukraine remaining far apart on settlement terms. Witkoff described the talks as productive, while Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said freezing the conflict was the “minimum” required to end the war.
