Ukraine faces setbacks as US ties sour and Starlink is restricted
The relationship between US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has deteriorated sharply over the past two weeks, with consequences including deadly attacks and disrupted military support. A Russian drone strike on a park in Kharkiv region killed a one-year-old girl, her mother, and four others on Monday. Ukraine has faced significant setbacks after the US restricted Starlink satellite services, imposing a speed limit that disrupted drone operations, and threatened to cut intelligence sharing. Zelensky met US negotiators Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner in Oslo on Tuesday, hosted by Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre and Finnish President Alexander Stubb. Ukraine is also awaiting delivery of Patriot air defense missiles, already paid for by European allies, pending a final signature from US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth. Witkoff is scheduled to travel to St. Petersburg on Wednesday to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin and present the Oslo meeting's outcomes.
